Liberation: Full Film Released

Our new short film Liberation has been released on YouTube! Check it out below, and please share it with all your friends! We want this film to get as many views as possible. The more views we get, the better positioned we are to continue spreading the message of liberty through film!

Hey guys! Been a while since we've had an update, but this is a big one! Below is the trailer for our brand new short film Liberation!

Liberation was created for the 168 Project, a Christian speed film making competition that saw 172 teams create films with only 10 days to write a script and plan everything and 7 days to shoot and edit them! Naturally, with such limited time, we decided to make what is by far our most ambitious film to date. Naturally. I assure you, we really are saving the best for the completed film! This trailer hardly shows anything, because we don't want to give away any of the big twists that are in store. If we win this competition - and while competition is stiff, I think we stand a reasonable chance - the grand prize is a feature film development deal worth up to ONE MILLION dollars. So we're pretty excited about it! We'll find out on June 17th if we've been selected for the festival, which I'm confident we will be! The winner will be announced at the festival, which will take place from August 8th to August 10th.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the competition, we can't actually release the film until after the festival. But don't worry, because we actually have ANOTHER film that is completed and will have a trailer debuting soon! We shot Occam's Razor in February and have been working on it ever since, but we put off doing anything more with it for the last month and a half while we worked towards our more time-sensitive 168 Project entry. But, now that that's out of the way, Occam's Razor WILL be released this summer, most likely in early July. Stay tuned!

DVD Prices Reduced

Hey guys!

As you may know, we've had a lot going on lately! We released our new short film "Enemies" less than a month ago and after a pretty grueling 8 day shoot wrapped production on yet ANOTHER short film just a few days ago, "Occam's Razor!" I'm currently in the process of entering "Enemies" into several film festivals and will be doing the same for "Occam's Razor" in the coming months. 

But entering film festivals isn't cheap, and how many we are able to enter is limited by our budget, or lack thereof. We could easily spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on Festival entry fees. So I'm asking for all of your help. As of today, the prices on One Man's Terrorist DVDs have been slashed from $20 for an autographed copy and $15 for a regular copy to $15 and $10, respectively. If you don't have one yet, now is the perfect time to buy one!

We are also gearing up to enter the "168 Project" in May; a Christian speed film making contest with a potential Million dollar development deal for a prize! But we're going to need your help and support to really make it happen, and buying our DVDs is a great way to support us! If you already have a DVD, buy one for a friend or make a donation!

Our new Short Film "Enemies"

Enemies was shot impromptu on our way home from Paul Fest at the end of last summer. All we had was a camera, the clothes on our back, and whatever props we could scrounge up in the car or along the way. And of course guns. Because we always have guns. Seriously. Always.

Enemies was directed by myself, David Kirk West, and stars me and the Wolf Brothers, Lucas and Travis. The film also features the voice acting talents of Morgan Bader and a phenomenal soundtrack by Bryce Miller, both of whom should now become Buck The System and Wolf Brothers Entertainment regulars!

Our next film will be shooting over President's day weekend. Our new regular collaborator Morgan Bader, a gifted young actor from Seattle, will be flying down to star in it. "ENEMIES" Trailer

Dreamed up and shot on a whim on the long drive back from Tampa, FL to Medford, OR after Paul Fest 2012, ENEMIES utilizes only the extremely limited resources we had available to them us on our trip. In addition to the me, Travis, and Lucas, the film also features the voice acting talent of Morgan Bader and a beautiful original score by Bryce Miller, both new and hopefully regular additions to the Buck The System team! The film also features songs by Portland Alt-Rock band "Jet Force Gemini" (Their song Gun Stars is featured in this trailer!) and Medford Folk-a-Billy band "Ol' Mount'n due."

In honor of the release of the long-delayed Red Dawn remake, Buck The System is proud to present this new, leaner version of One Man's Terrorist. The 45-minute, 3-part series has now been edited into a single 33 minute film, and it's all the better for it. The Smoking Gun: Post Fundraiser Update

Hey guys, it's David West here. Sorry I've been so slow updating everyone on what's been going on now that our fundraiser ended but it's been a VERY busy last couple of weeks for me. I was the best man at my little brother's wedding, I went to a family reunion to celebrate my grandparent's 50th anniversary, I did a couple odd jobs to keep afloat while I work on movies, I'm getting ready to crash the Portland Gun Buy-Back, and last Thursday I had my arraignment for a "disorderly conduct" charge I got when I was  arrested while protesting a police speed-trap with a "Tax Whore Pig!" sign a couple weeks ago.

I have the whole thing on video - or at least, I will as soon as the PD returns the back-up camera they confiscated from me - and it should prove very interesting to expose some of the claims made on the police report. You'll definitely be seeing a video about it sometime in the future. I've got a good, freedom-loving, Ron Paul supporting lawyer so I have no doubt that I'll be able to beat the charges.

Anyway... I'd planned on doing this as a video update but I have a few things I'm still trying to get finalized before Paul Fest and I didn't want to wait any longer to finish the video (the piggy-pigs having my tripod hasn't helped, either), so I'm just going to write it. I want to give a big shout out to all of the awesome people who helped us in our fundraiser, but unfortunately we didn't raise nearly as much as we'd hoped to, so we've had to change our plans a little bit.

After IndieGoGo's fees we only raised about $2,000. Once all the perks are awarded (T-Shirts in particular aren't cheap) we have even less. We basically only raised enough to either make the trailer or go to Paul Fest and the RNC, but I fortunately figured out a way that I THINK we should still be able to do both.

We'd wanted to finish the trailer and premiere it at Paul Fest, but we realized not long after we'd started the fundraiser that we probably weren't going to raise the kind of money we'd need to do that. That's why we shot the teaser trailer; so we'd at least have SOMETHING to show people about "The Smoking Gun." To stretch our funds as far as possible, we are using the money we raised from the fundraiser to go to Paul Fest, and in addition I'm investing over $1200 out of my own wallet into a booth at Paul Fest and 500 copies of One Man's terrorist on DVD, which we will then sell at Paul Fest. I should only need to sell about 100 DVDs to break even on the initial investment and everything we sell beyond that will be profit. Hopefully, we'll be able to sell enough to come back from the trip with an extra couple thousand dollars we can use to finance the production of the more extensive trailer for The Smoking Gun, because if not it's going to be paid for completely out of our rather shallow pockets.

Once we get back from Paul Fest, though, the plan is to get right back to work on the trailer and a few other film making projects I've been developing. The beauty of this plan is that, now that we aren't working under a deadline, we can spend more time working on the trailer, and as you know, time is money. Where before we would have had to spend good money to quickly build a jail cell set, now we can afford to shop around and acquire all the components needed for it for a more reasonable price. Essentially, having more time to work on the trailer will allow us to create it even more cheaply.

To get ready for Paul Fest, I've been working on adding some more special features like a directors commentary to the One Man's Terrorist DVD. The plan is to sell the DVDs for $15 a pop and $20 for autographed copies, but we're going to be supporting a good cause while we're at it.

10% of all our DVD sales and 100% of the extra $5 from autographed copies will be donated to helping libertarian journalist and Ron Paul supporter Glenn Horowitz modify his car for wheelchair access. Glenn was crippled by multiple sclerosis in 2006, and is a fan of my films who has further demonstrated his good tastes by being a hardcore fan of Joss Whedon's firefly, so I figure it's the least we can do for him.

The procedure to modify his Honda Element for wheelchair access is going to cost about $26,000, and If you're interested in donating to help him, here is the link to his "Get Glenn Mobile" IndieGoGo campaign:

I want to let everyone know that I'm working on getting all the perks fulfilled but because we had some issues getting our IndieGoGo funds properly dispersed (I forgot that my debit card expired in the middle of the campaign, so my funds weren't properly dispersed at first and ended up being delayed about 2 weeks because of it), things did get delayed a bit. I have ordered the shirts now but unfortunately it's probably going to be another two weeks before they're ready and therefore I might not be able to send them out until early September when we return from the RNC. Part of the reason the wait is so long is because I'm getting a really good deal on them, though, so I appreciate all of your patience! Considering the budget we're working with every penny we save is that much more we'll be able to use for the film effort!

So I think that pretty much covers everything... The Smoking Gun is an action-packed, modern-day western about the war on drugs and it's detrimental effects on society. We are currently raising money to shoot a trailer for the film this summer to help us secure the budget we're going to need to shoot the feature film next summer. Stossel Responds to my Clip

I'm certainly glad I'm not the only one who remembers booing, because this video throws me off a bit. I'm definitely still right though that people did NOT applaud Bolton's answer. If anything the smattering of applause are for me trying to rebut Bolton or just people doing the typical clap

What you still don't see is the people in the back corner of the room where my seat was hugging me and shaking my hand and telling me Bolton can go, "Go F*** himself" as I'm on my way to my seat. Between that and the fact that I was practically seeing red listening to Bolton, I guess that is what is coloring my memory of the event. Still, pretty manipulative editing by Fox to make it look like that answer got applause.

I know a couple people who have personally told me that they booed, though, so I'm not going completely crazy.

Judge Napolitano's "Freedom Watch" Cancelled

It's a sad day for libertarians. Judge Andrew Napolitano's excellent Fox Business show Freedom Watch has been cancelled. The last few years that he has been on, the good Judge has been the most unwavering proponent of liberty on television. Check out the article on it here:

Great news everyone!

The IndieGoGo fundraising campaign to get me to Washington D.C. for the Veterans for Ron Paul march has been an ENORMOUS success.

I was helping a friend move all day yesterday so I didn't get a chance to check the fundraising page until lunch time. All I was really hoping for was that someone - ANYONE - had donated to my campaign. I about did a literal spit take when I saw that you guys had already donated $435! By the time I got done helping my friend move in late afternoon, we'd already broken my $800 goal, something I'd been extremely worried we wouldn't even be able to hit in a week! And now, only about 36 hours after I started the campaign, you've raised $1,010 for me! Absolutely AWESOME!

This is really good news because knowing how successful the campaign has been I'll be able to pick up my airfare today before it gets any more expensive and I won't have to wait until next week hoping the campaign will be successful so I can actually afford them!

But that's not the only thing on the great news front! My good friend Paul Henderson's College Libertarians group at Pepperdine University met last night to plan out their expenses for their trip to the Students for Liberty Conference February 17-19 (an event I'm also attending). Still waiting on all the exact details but it looks like I'll be able to room with them the first few days I'm in D.C. and instead of spending the $50 or so a night to split a room that I was hoping to spend, I may only have to spend about $20! So it's looking like there's a very real possibility that I'll have a few bucks left over from this campaign to put towards my next action-packed short film about the ethics of private, voluntaristic defense.
